Anyone of you ever heard about new immigrant bazaar held in Pingtung? This post will be all about the event which was held last Sunday, November 19th. The culture-themed market fair named ˹哇! 新住民市集˼ regularly open for public visit every third Sunday of the month at Sun Liren Hall (孫立人將軍行館), Pingtung City. The location is just 15-minute walk from Pingtung train station or around 10-minute bike ride (yes, you can take the city bike called Pbike).
Through this event run by National Immigration Agency and Pingtung County Government, Taiwan government invites new residents of foreign origin to introduce and promote their countries and its culture by setting up booths as well as performing traditional arts. The new settlers participating in this event are from various countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, China, India, Mexico, France, Germany, Canada, etc. Most of them offer authentic cuisine from their homelands. Some are selling handicrafts, vegetables, fruits and mini decorative plants. You will get the chance to taste traditional dishes from parts of the world.
Some booth offer unique experiences like Thai massage and hand drawn anime-like postcard made per request. In addition to cultural booths and vendors, there are also music and traditional performances you can enjoy. Some programs include culture introduction by MC, drum performance, Japan’s traditional music performance and Taiwan’s aboriginal group performance.
It was a special experience for us to get to know and experience different cultures, to meet new people and share stories of our life in Taiwan.
